Automotive Light Maintenance Technician 

Looking for a career that isn’t going to slow you down in life? Do you enjoy working with your hands and have an interest in cars? Fuel your passion by taking our Automotive Light Maintenance Technician training. Why wait to Jump Start your career in the Automotive Industry? SOAR is partnering with Duluth Adult Education and Lake Superior College to get you started in entry-level service technician and mechanic positions at local shops, dealerships, and major retailers. 

What you’ll get….

  • Get hands-on experience and connections to area employers
  • Gain transferable skills to advance in the transportation and logistics field
  • Learn the basics of welding, tires, inspects, brakes, suspension, electrical, system and vehicle maintenance from top tier LSC instructors
  • Connect directly with employers to learn about job opportunities
  • Learn to be a competitive job candidate with your SOAR Career Specialist 

What you’ll need…

  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Be 16 years of age or older

Career Connect

Are you 16-24 years old? Looking to start your career in a growing industry?

Career Connect is a program connecting youths to employment opportunities in the hospitality industry. Youths receive one on one case management to assist with job search efforts, filling out applications, developing resumes, and preparing for interviews. This training is cost-free and includes financial incentives for each milestone you achieve in your career journey.

Certified Nursing Assistant – (CNA)

SOAR is partnering with Lake Superior College, Duluth Adult Education and Career Force to provide qualified individuals with FREE, professional training! 

Are you a compassionate, caring, and hardworking person? Then Start your career in healthcare by taking our FREE Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training. CNA’s are in-demand in this region and full-time employees earn $34,500 annually on average.

  • This training is a hybrid model, partially online and partially hands-on. This allows for a flexible schedule as well as independent study
  • You will get great lab experience along with hand on experience in a long-term care facility 
  • This course prepares you to successfully pass the state Nursing Assistant Test Out 
  • CNA’s work in many settings including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, group homes, and in-home

Trained Medication Aide (TMA)

Are you a CNA looking to advance in your position or increase your wage? Then, our TMA training is a great fit for you! 

  • This month-long, online training course through LSC prepares you to be able to distribute patient medications in a healthcare setting 
  • Being a TMA in addition to a CNA can raise your hourly wage between $1-3, and make you a valuable asset in many healthcare facilities

Medical Office Support Specialist

Do you have a desire to work in healthcare but prefer to work within an office setting? Full-time Medical Secretaries in Duluth earn on average $39,400 annually. 

  • Our Health Services training through Lake Superior College prepares students for administrative roles within healthcare settings 

  • This training prepares you to work in a variety of medical settings, in a variety of positions that include scheduling, registration, data entry, etc. People who have completed this training can work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, assisted living, dental offices, chiropractic offices, etc.

Construction/Building Trades

In partnership with Duluth Adult Education, Building Strong Communities and Duluth Workforce Development, SOAR offers case management and advocacy support for participants seeking placement in building trades registered apprenticeship programs. Participants receive multi-core craft (MC3) curriculum instruction, a pre-apprenticeship training curriculum, developed and approved by the Building Trades National Apprenticeship and Training Committee. Participants receive an overview of the multitude of trade opportunities, get hands on exposure at various union training sites, prepare for job interviews, and meet directly with union representatives and contractors.  Advocates are there every step of the way - from enrollment to hands-on training to enrolling into a registered apprenticeship program. Participants increase their skills and personal connections to enter into the construction industry.
